They are both very stable so it depends on your paranoia level.

I have been running 3.0 on a fairly busy router
for several weeks now with 0 problems so I'd say use it
then you don't need to upgrade again later.

The only issues left for 3 seem to be picayune
things like minor package dependencies.
You will do a  minimal install for a firewall anyway, so
probably will never see any of these.
