Hi Folks,

We have farms of identical servers, however a few different farms (each of 5-15
servers) for each configuration (pretty much- the batch we purchase). All
lovely Dell rackmount units (1U and 2U units).

At present, Trustix has been deployed on one such cluster with identical
configurations, however we intend to deploy it across many. Additionally, we'd
like to maintain a copy (or even build the initial copy) on a VMWare
installation, giving test beds on many workstations around the office.

What is involved for 're-calibrating' Trustix's hardware information, throwing
away the old information and finding the new. What commands would one run to
re-detect NICs, SCSI controllers, and of course other hardware that may exist
after syncronizing all of the data?

In the past, we've used custom kernels, so we'd have pre-made kernel images for
the proper systems and then simply modified lilo.conf and run lilo to activate
the proper kernel for the system.

I imagine that this is different for using the hardware autodetection and
pre-built kernel images.

Thanks in advance,
-M
