in that case, as far as I know, all you'd need to do, is edit the 
involved config files (grub.conf / fstab, at least) and alter 
/etc/mkinitrd/modules to reflect the target hardware - and make a new 
initrd (mkinitrd)

also, /etc/modprobe.conf likely needs some changes ... alias ethX module 
etc.
