Why don't you just ask chris an access to contrib area?

IMHO, useful (and quite well tested) packages should go into contrib.

Maintaining a personal contrib would make overlapping packages, and unneeded
effort.
My net-snmp package originates from olaf's work found in contrib, just updated,
backported some ideas from TSL3, and fed back to contrib.

I'm currently maintaining two sets of packages:
- one for general packages (such as net-snmp or a few perl CPAN packages for
TSL 2.2) -> always go into contrib
- a second one for internal use only; it just contains custom internal
configurations, so I can setup a box in no time.

The second one are just scripts and config files, no RPMS.
(S)RPMS (i.e. software which deserve a good packaging) are always put on
official contrib.

My two cents.

Ivan
