In the UK, say "1066" and everyone knows the Battle of Hastings. Though 
I forget what the battle was over...
I guess every 'nation' has it's battles that are remembered because the 
'nation' won.  Hopefully, we'll never see another battle in Europe/Rest 
of World.  Guess that's just hope though :-(
