uhm.. 35Mb on a 1Gb link is not what I would class as "good" .. did you 
mean 35MB (280Mb, though still somewhat poor)? I frequently get 80Mb on 
a non-raid (sata) nfs mount here..

samba is suboptimal for file sharing activities..
