I had several problems running TSL3 / kernel 2.6 on compaq proliant
machines, due to RAID drivers problems.
No problem w/ TSL 2.2 / kernel 2.4

Nevertheless, I would agree on running a 2.6 based distro, expecially if you
wish to use newer RAID controllers.
I've been also told that the 2.6 kernel scheduler is somehow better,
resulting in a more responsive system, but I never found that big
difference.

IBM is very good, its ips.(k)o raid driver is very welll supported.

No experience on DELL, but a friend of mine (working on heavy loaded dell
servers) runs linux (RHEL) on dell 1850 w/o a glitch

I have never had trouble with TSL and standard servers from HP, Dell and
IBM.

Would recommend TSL 3, if you want TSL.
