ITS uses WINS to handle DNS entries, consequently you need samba running and properly configured to do this. Ensure that you have these lines in your smb.conf under the [global] section (I have no clue where that is in RedHat but both Gentoo and Debian store it in /etc/samba/smb.conf): wins server = 150.243.160.1 netbios name = <insert name that you want here> Also make sure that the "wins support" line is either commented out or set to "No" as having it otherwise would make your box a WINS server which you don't want (took me a while to figure that out...) Once those lines are in there restart samba. I think you would type "/etc/init.d/smb restart" in RedHat. You should now have a DNS entry.
