Everything Peter said is correct, with one augmentation: it can take
up to 5 minutes before you have a DNS entry, as ITS's WINS-to-DNS
transfer refreshes every 5 minutes. To confirm that lookups in both
directions work, use the host command:

host yourname.truman.edu

and 

host 150.243.xxx.yyy 

where xxx and yyy are your assigned IP from DHCP.
