     Yes, the Windows XP had SP2 installed.   I want to tell   you that I 
replaced the usb keyboard and all, mouse and keyboard began to wotk fine.

have you update teh service pack. what kind of SP do you have?, 
please work for the lstest one, it should solve the problem.
