Hi Freddie, This won't be too helpful if you're tied to using Macports, but in my experience the most popular and best supported package manager these days is Homebrew: https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew 0.7.3 is currently included there, which I've installed and am using successfully, and updates tend to be integrated pretty quickly.
