I suggest installing Ant onto your system just as you would install
gmake onto a Solaris box. For Linux, Josh Lucas has a RPM:

Ant is improving, but it has also been augmented by a great set of
wrapper scripts that do the same thing that our build scripts do. I
for one am not interested in maintaining duplicate functionality.
Also, soon typing `ant <target>` will be as ubiquitous as typing
`make <target>`.

Build scripts can be incompatible, this is true. I think that this
argument may still be valid...
