Anyway, Ant is too much of an 'artistic' thing ( I mean it's a BIG MESS ! ;-) ) to have one and only one build file. It is not their goal anyway, IMO. I think that Maven is more aimed at being a quite 'close' project : trying to have things always done in the same way, so that one *can't* get lost, whatever his project is. Goals are different, so are means. I would say that Ant is actually a colony of Ants, each one doing its own job (well), whereas Maven would be something like a unique architect Ant, telling each Ant how to do its job.
