Cool. Thanks for the opinions. Believe it or not, this sort of discussion will definitely sway me. I can see your point wrt commons and Ant. The difference for us is that we don't just download ant (at the moment), whereas the dependencies we do.
I doubt anyone would want a maven release to wait on releasing other projects. That's not far away, but To be clear, it would be OK with me if Maven's official release does not support < Ant 1.5 for all plugins. > most builds these days are done with 1.4.1, and we need to support the most > common build environment. > Respectfully disagree. I hear talk about supporting only released code but don't buy it. Maven is still in Beta. Maven has dependencies on commons-lang 0.1, comons-io 0.1, commons-util 0.1, and dvsl 0.43. Will people that use Maven in Beta come to terms with that? Having as a dependency a stable Ant 1.5 Beta is not different than the above dependencies to me while Maven is in Beta. Besides, Ant 1.5 features that are needed in Maven may begin to clutter Maven's source eventually. Then again, does Maven wait until all the above have official releases before it's own 1.0 release? That may not be realistic either. Interesting. I guess we'll see. > Which issues, other than javadoc do we have with jdk 1.4?
