Maybe if one day maven came with its own installer, so that rather than
requiring Ant be installed on the machine before maven is used that users
could just run maven and it would use its own Ant installation. Then users
could type...

maven maven:compile

Then maven could use whatever version of Ant it liked underneath; using
whatever latest and greatest version & features etc. Though until that
happens I don't think we should force users to upgrade to the latest and
greatest beta release of Ant; though if we can optionally make use of new
stuff in 1.5beta that'd be cool..
