Ah OK I get it. How about we reuse our ':' naming convention from goal names? (Though admittedly this is a marginal call and may lead to unnecessary work, so take this suggestion with a pinch of salt). <id>ant:optional</id> its not a big deal but just feels a bit more maven-ish.
