I am not completely new to Turbine yet I am not an expert by any stretch of
the imagination, but my understanding is that Turbine is a framework that
offers many different services like: templating, security, database
connection pooling, logging, Object to Relational Database mapping, etc.
I don't know of any IBM frameworks that compete with Turbine as a whole.
However, IBM or the Servlet 2.2 API have competing ways of doing almost
everything except for templating.
The servlet api offers security through the use of the web.xml document.
IBM WebSphere has database connection pooling.
IBM also has several logging tools (frameworks)
IBM also several ORD options (EJB implementation or Persistence Builder).
However, I have not seen anything as nice as Turbine's custom querying
framework.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Donald Bell

Please respond
to turbine-user
Tomorrow (Today:-) I will have to defend a software development proposal
where we recommended using Turbine. I am concerned that our prospective
customer will question this decision. I have worked with Turbine for
several months, have reread the documentation and fully appreciate
turbine's benefits. However, I am aware of the existence of several open
source frameworks but I am not sure what would be the likely commercial
competing frameworks?
- Does anyone know if IBM and BEA have their own frameworks or are they
bundling any frameworks? What would be their weak points?
If you prefer you can reply directly to me to avoid a religious war over
frameworks?
Saludos
