I'm running my Turbine-application (basically a Mavenized version of the generated tdk-newapp) just fine with postgresql, but I've been using the village 2.0 snapshot available on the Ibiblio maven repository ( http://www.ibiblio.org/maven/village/jars/ ) from the start. You might have better luck using that.
