Try the tomcat-manager to see if your app is registered.
http:machinenname:8080/ then follow the link to the manager.

hi dieter,

i just checked and tomcat unpacked it, but i get an error http: 404 when i 
type the following url:

http://machinename:8080/myapp_name/servlet/myapp_name

In the tomcat web.xml conf file, i uncommented the ssi part and the cgi as 
well!
