i think that yes, EJB still extremely useful. the way i see it is, with EJB
you will have two options for object/bean persistence: "Container Managed
Persistence" and "Bean Managed Persistence." the latter option is what i see
OPaL as being and what Rickard is talking about for the "...O/R tools that
work on top of EJB1.0/1.1..."
we are still very early on in the development of OPaL but if you would like
to help out feel free... the more help we get (within reason) the quicker it
will be completed. we are using a design written by Scott W. Ampler in a
series of two white papers which you can get from here:

reading these white papers will also give you a better idea of if OPaL will
do what you are looking for.
