Has it ever been considered to use a newsgroup instead of a mailing list for
the medium of communication on the java apache projects? It seems to me that
for many of the users of this mailing list that using a newsgroup reader
would be more efficient. This would allow for easy browsing of past
discussions, and threading.
If it's notification of new messages, I don't feel this to be an issue. I've
worked on some Palm projects in the past that have used a newsgroup server
for their discussion medium, and it worked fine as long as you kept a
newsgroup reader open (and filtered to only show threads with new messages).
If it's hardware or serving, I believe that I could help in this area
through Nextel or GTS Innova.
If it's noise, these newsgroup servers wouldn't have to published to the
newsgroup community. They could simply be referenced like they are now.
Anyways, just a thought...
