There is a Checkout Module command in the same menu as Preferences and Login
which I am assuming you found, since you said you were able to login.

You can use Explorer to open files etc.(don't move them around), but diff,
commit and log are done within WinCVS.  If you right click on a file or
folder, you will probably find the command you want.
