Another good DBMS for development, demos, and small
projects is InstantDB (java) at instantdb.enhydra.org.
One weakness is you have to use 3rd-party RMI driver
for network access, but you can't beat the setup time.
Without any experience with this, you can have db up
in 1 hour. Good docs for this.
