Jon provided a very good history lesson here.  I am familiar with both
Joist and Turbine, and while both code bases are good, Joist does not
quite provide the flexibility or as many features as Turbine (though the
code base is much smaller).  Eventually, I'd like to use Turbine in
Joist wherever functionality overlaps.  This is actually one of my
reasons for wanting the core Turbine package to be a separate download
from the TDK (Joist is currently only on friendly terms with JServ and
MySQL).
