Actually, there is nothing terribly 'English' (or offensive) about pig
latin. In fact, linguists have discovered that variations are nearly
universal. Thailand, aboriginal Australia, Java and native American tribes
are examples of cultures that have languages in which the only variation on
the vernacular is a change in the order of syllables, consonants, or
phonetic or thematic substitution. Pig latin falls within what linguists
call "play languages" usually (but not always) spoken by children in an
attempt to confuse adults.
In Spain it is called, I believe, jerigonza and in both Spain and Mexico,
the variations are to insert consonant sound(s) into a word after each
syllable.
