I only did it the way I did it because I didn't want to break existing
applications that may depend on the fact that the log files are created the
way that they are.

I guess we can vote on it here. I really don't care one way or another
because:

#1. The logging system needs to be replaced anyway.
#2. I don't use Log outside of the scope of a servlet.

I leave it up to you guys to sort this one out. :-)
