yes, I know all that... I was more hoping that there would be some way to
tell to Turbine within an action that "hey! don't do anything more, I
already wrote everything to response!"...

How else would you implement an action that does file download (FileServlet
equivalent)? An action that reads a file from the filesystem and writes it
to the response. I could write a separate servlet for that but actions are
more convenient and the code has to share the access-control system with
Turbine...

If the feature is missing from Turbine, how/where could we add it? I think I
won't be the only person with such a need.
