To be honest, I also share that feeling. After browsing forms.py this  
morning to add docstrings I must confess that  I'm amazed seeing that  
the code actually works... :P I'm glad I greatly simplified that  
inheritance tree in TW (mainly by making every widget a compound)  
because I'm afraid Michele and I got carried away by defining lot's  
of entities which are actually only used as base classes but never  
really used alone... Unfortunately 1.0's feature freeze and API  
stabilization months ago prevented a serious clean-up from taking  
place inside TG widgets.

Anyway, I'll try documenting better those classes that are actually  
suitable for subclassing in 3rd party widgets. Hopefully no poor soul  
will be using those which aren't...

Hehe, I don't think that'll be a good idea... TG users might need..  
coffee to undersand my "caffeinated" ramblings if I do... :P
