I had thought about this myself and, incidentally I was using http://smurl.name instead of tinyurl.com until recently when it had a few hours (days?) outage. But then again, who guarantees that the original Google URLs always stay the same? > Maybe for the FAQ we could just display a shortened url but keep the > real one inside our own document. I keep a copy of all the relevant messages in a special mail folder on my desktop box, but of course this doesn't help others. There is also the problem, that ReST does not allow you to have multiple links with the same link text in the same document. Rather silly, IMHO. (Or maybe I just haven't read the docs properly?). This means that you can't do the following: Question #001: Please see `this post <http://groups,google.com/akskaska...>`_. Question #002: Please see `this post <http://groups,google.com/jksaknsa...>`_. so you either have to invent your own post IDs/names to make the link texts unique or you show the URL itself in the text: Question #001: Please see this post: http://groups,google.com/akskaska... or Question #001: Please see post `How to do foo`_. _ ..How to do foo: http://groups,google.com/akskaska... That's why I chose to use short URLs from tinyurl.com.
