I've managed to reproduce your problem on a quickstarted app but the widget is working alright in the widget browser. I've done an exact replica of the code in the widget description search controller but the exception is raised only on a quickstarted app. It seems unrelated to validation however as no validators were involved in the code I tested and the validate() decorator wasn't applied. I've stepped through the changeset's diffs since 1090 but cannot seem trace the cause... :/ Can you please file a ticket on this?
