There's a big difference between those graphs and a sparkplot. vinj was talking about something unobtrusive on the front page. Maybe the sparkplots can be made to look a little classier. I'm an admitted Tufte groupee, so I think sparkplots are cool -- but only if they fit the entirety of the page well. Tufte's all about good information presentation, and sparkplots are a very condensed way to provide info. But, our home page is a marketing device... so, we'll see if they fit. (A sparkplots widget would be cool. Unfortunately, that would require a capability widgets don't yet have: the ability to respond to requests themselves, since images come in on a separate request.)
