It does.  After removing identity.require() I started getting the lazystring
error, "as expected" (unfortunately).

Your patch fails to apply on r.622 (I see you made it agains r.618).  Your
last line isn't a line by itself, but this I fixed in the patch.  Attached is
the rejection file.

I'm doing the changes by hand and I'll post here in a few minutes what was the
result.
