I use Apple terminal - there's a couple of other's that offer tabs etc if you want those. Virtual desktops are available via Shareware sofware (CodeTex Virtual Desktop). Much easier than I thought I would! You can plug a N button mouse in and it'll just work if you really can't cope without more buttons. Most people I know who have mac desktops do this. I've not bothered since my main machine is a powerbook so I've adapted to the one button. I view a mac as being just like a linux box for development, but with the advantage of a nice desktop and access to MS Office when I need it.
