"supervisor" -- referring to supervise from djb's daemontools? I use runit (http://smarden.org/runit/), which is inspired by daemontools but released under a BSD-compatible license (as opposed to djb's non-license). If you haven't installed daemontools yet, you might find it worth a look. BTW, if there's anywhere where someone who's at least as much sysadmin as programmer can lend a hand, drop me a message via private mail; I'd be happy to find a few hours to donate somewhere, and troubleshooting interesting problems is the most enjoyable part of my day job.
