I see you also submitted a bug report on the SQLObject bug tracker: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1495030&group_id=74338&atid=540672 I see a date submitted of 2006-05-25, so more than 2 months ago, and you also proposed a straightforward, one-liner patch... but as of today, the status is still open... I guess I will take this to SQLObject-discuss.
