PEAA is a good reference if you want to understand, say, the architectural differences between SQLAlchemy and SQLObject "under the hood". It certainly can't cover every nuance, but it gives disparate groups a good shared vocabulary. I'd recommend it to anyone that has some architectural responsibilities and an open mind toward learning from other people's projects "in the same space" as your own.
