consider running something like VirtualBox with a Linux image :) coLinux + vnc seems to work ok too.

You are almost certainly going to be deploying on a *nix server of some kind, and it will make life a heck of a lot easier to write the code on linux. Ubuntu is very newby friendly now and getting gears going in dev mode on ubuntu was very easy.
