Hey Michael, I've been struggling with this myself and even used the same code by Chris Arndt that you refer to as the basis for the SA tests. What version of sqlite3 are you running? I was getting a lot of weird errors before upgrading from 3.2.1 to 3.3.5, after which point everything seemed to work the way I was expecting.
