To wrap this thread up, I have overhauled the paginate documentation http://docs.turbogears.org/1.0/PaginateDecorator and added a demo application that shows several uses of the paginate decorator and exemplifies passing the paginate parameters from a data grid page to an edit/view page and back (using neither cookies nor referer header).
