Yes, that's the bzipped package I mentioned before, which I don't want
to unzip here. I just found a solution for TB 68 here
<https://askubuntu.com/questions/1084059/latest-update-to-thunderbird-60-2-1-on-18-04-lightning-calendar-missing>:
sudo apt install xul-ext-lightning
Now the calendar tab is back. I just need to do some configs to
synchronize it with my calendar provider.
Many thanks, I'm very happy with TurboVNC! And I'm sorry, the issue here
with Thunderbird is really not your thing.

I just tried the official build of 78.10.0
(https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all) in an Ubuntu 18.04
VM, and it works fine for me.
You can verify whether an issue is TurboVNC-specific by using
literally any other X server. A TigerVNC instance would work. Xvfb
would also work in this case, because the issue occurs during
application startup. You could also use VM software such as VirtualBox
on your client machine to test issues such as these.
This project doesn't have a lot of resources, and those resources are
about to become more constrained, given the high likelihood that I
will have to borrow against the entire 2021/2022 TurboVNC General Fund
in order to finish the 3.0 release. Thus, I would greatly appreciate
it if users do as much triage as possible before filing a bug report
against TurboVNC.

Hi DRC,
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=882122 didn't
really help, because my TB 78 was installed as a snap package. So
whatever I tried, the three error lines remained the same. There were
no more informations available. So I uninstalled TB 78 and installed
TB 68 again. And as expected, TB 68 works (I just use it to write
this), but the calendar tab is not available. I think, I have to
wait, until Canonical provides a newer (properly working) TB version,
which has a calendar tab again. I know, TB can be downloaded as
bzipped package and unzipped manually. But this I don't want to do on
a workstation of my employer.
Whether it is reproducible outside of TurboVNC, I unfortunately
cannot test, because I'm currently working at home permanently.

It looks like you may be encountering this issue:

If the issue only exists within TurboVNC, then I will investigate it
as a TurboVNC bug. If it is reproducible outside of TurboVNC, then
it's someone else's problem.

Hi,
I've got a new workstation with Ubuntu 18.04. I installed TurboVNC
2.2.6 there. The preinstalled Thunderbird 68 didn't have a calendar
tab, because in that tb version it still was the lightning add-on,
which isn't available anymore. In Thunderbird 78 the calendar tab
is fully integrated. So lightning isn't needed anymore. That's the
reason, why it isn't available anymore. So I uninstalled tb 68 and
installed tb78. But this version cannot be startet. When I try to
start it from command line, I get these errors:
~$ thunderbird
No protocol specified
Unable to init server: Verbindung ist gescheitert: Connection refused
Error: cannot open display: :1
"Verbindung ist gescheitert" means "Connection has failed" in
english. Display ":1" is the TurboVNC session I'm connected to at
this point. So why does the TurboVNC server refuse the connection
of Thunderbird here? And what does "No protocol specified" mean here?
