This requires a bit of explanation. Originally I conceived of the right
button bar palette being long enough to give a larger variety of choices,
and therefore could scroll. However, then I though that would take away
from the creativity of custom mixing paints, so all we really need is a set
of basic colors for mixing. I simply forgot when I edited the message to
replace this "large palette" with "buckets of paint".
Here's one more idea. Maybe since the right button bar will have a few
extra spaces, it could have a few additional choices being a some pre-made
palettes, with thumbnails of the palettes (folded up to fit in a square
button) on them. This would do away with the "sink" icon. (I don't think
the sink metaphor works well -- how does washing up restore colors to their
original state?) Instead, the first palette would be the standard palette,
the second palette would be some pastels, the third would be some "neon"
colors, the fourth would be some "hot" colors, the fifth would be some
"cold" colors, etc. Again, when switching palettes, a "fade to new palette"
animation might be nice.
Site-supplied custom colors and custom palettes should be possible just by
dropping .dat files into the appropriate directory. The water jug always
sorts to the top, and then the colors, followed by the palettes. If the
list is too long for one screen, it scrolls.
In addition to the jug of water, other tools that modify the color mixing
process in different ways might be possible. I don't know at this point
what would be useful. I guess the water jug should be reversable, but I'm
not sure what the opposite tool would be -- maybe just a special bucket of
paint, the color of which always matches the currently selected color. And
then maybe another pair of buttons: "lightbulb"/"dark lightbulb" to adjust
brightness.
