I like the idea. I think the colour selector should be very simple
and easy to use -- with no dials or sliders.

Here's my suggestion:

Most colour pickers have a separate slider for brightness,
and you can only select the hue and saturation from the main
colour map. This one, on the other hand, lets you pick all
aspects of a colour *directly*, which is both faster and
easier (especially for kids).
