Confession time: I've never found TDS or CR funny. I found last night's WU to be equally unfunny.
I'm now more convinced than ever that Tina Fey wrote most of SNL's Sarah Palin segments, which are, in contrast to last night's show, brilliantly funny. I don't know what's wrong with Tom Shales these days. He also gave Kath and Kim a great review. Sorry, Kevin, I didn't watch Kath and Kim -- based on the promos, which I thought were awful. Awful promos, awful show, to my way of thinking, which is usually correct. I do love 30 Rock, however -- mostly because of Baldwin's brilliant delivery of smart, atypical sitcom lines. (SNIP) The "Update" segment, longer than it is on a normal edition of the show, was handled with their usual cheerful brilliance by Amy Poehler and "SNL" head writer Seth Meyers, with a guest appearance from cast member Kenan Thompson as a venerable economist whose prescription for a madly malfunctioning Wall Street was a simple, shouted "Fix it!" Did the political jokes have a little less bite than usual? Maybe, possibly, perhaps -- but they were funny, that's the issue, and funnier than Comedy Central's overpraised Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert even on their best nights." I know some people here read Shales regularly - I do not. I can't believe he is serious in saying that tonight's SNL mini-sode was better than TDS or CR on their best nights.
