How do you get an honest measurement of the performance of the networks, when you announce ahead of time when you are going to conduct the measurement?
Answer: You can't. Because they know when the sweeps periods occur, the networks juice up their offerings during those periods. The ratings are therefore atypical of what the rest of the year holds in store for the audience. Nielson: Keep those ratings periods secret beforehand, and hold them randomly thruout the year.
