Following other Tribune-owned stations, New York's CW affil WPIX is dropping the "CW11" branding (preceded by the "WB11" branding of that network's existence) and returning to its old "11" logo by the end of the year:
http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2008/10/28/2008-10-28_ch_11_drops_cw_tag_and_goes_back_to_wpix.html The company line has been all along that the news audience and the CW audience are not one and the same and branding stations as "CW___" does not help the news product, but there still seems to be some feeling that Sam Zell and Randy Michaels would like to dump the CW affiliations ASAP, despite the partial turnaround in the net's fortunes thanks to "90210" and "Gossip Girl"--the fact that the Sunday night leaseout to Trib-backed Media Rights Capital (supposedly forced on The CW by Zell and Michaels) is so far a ratings disaster would seem to hint that The CW would not be on good terms with the Trib these days. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Like TV only smarter.
