That's exactly what Mr. Poniewozik wonders.

I suspect Kring believes that we should all be watching TV at the
announced starting time and his show every Monday night at 9, as God
and General Sarnoff intended.

The bad thing is that he's playing right into the hands of those who
want to characterize reality show fans as saps and dips--ts, since
they watch the shows as fed instead of DVRing or onlining them
(particularly the talent comps like "Idol" and "Dancing," which have
the call in and vote element).  Of course, I have the feeling that
most WGA cardholders agree with him about reality show fans (who also,
I presume, tend to watch procedural dramas for their scripted
programming).
