To me, the opposite is true. The ability to sequentially watch certain
series is made easier by these alternative methods of viewing. I
started buying up the DVDs of "Stargate" last November and now I own
the entire collection (both SG1 and Atlantis, as well as the DVD
movies). I liked the show when it aired, but when it started I didn't
have Showtime, and the syndicated airings never seemed to be on at the
same day or time. If the argument that, ratings-wise, alternate
sources negatively impact the initial airings of shows with continuing
story-arcs, I'll agree with that, but no more than they impact other
shows, and possibly less. Reality shows, for example, do not turn as
big a profit in after-broadcast media as scripted series.
