But Kevin makes his fair point that the moral outrage is not as respects the contestant's life and foibles but as respects their musical integrity. I think you can be a loud critic of an industry that creates and destroys people for the purpose of profit. I just get leery when arguments veer towards insulting other people for their preferences, as opposed to sticking with straight criticism. There's a place in my utopian fantasy world for Pitchfork to hate Coldplay and Kevin to hate Clay-who-must-not-be-named. As long as they don't insult my right to like Coldplay, or Melissa's right to like Mr. 8Ken.
