The problem is that Ben Lyons makes Ben Mankewicz seem like a genius. His "reviews" are more spoiler sessions with every plot detail revealed and he still thinks he's doing the show on E! where virtually everything needs to be gushed about. And Mankewicz seems to have 52 best movies of the year. The real problem is that it ain't Siskel or Ebert. The new guys can talk about movies, but Siskel and Ebert wrote about them. They were articulate. They defended their views. (I won't say the same about Roeper, who is more a capsulist and culture columnist.) At the Movies with Pinky and the Brain has more the routine of Manky doing the old Siskel routine of praising a movie (but mostly noting how it would be better if it was more like 3 other movies) and Lyons saying "yeah it was neat" or "You're wrong." Or Lyons (all but wearing a paper trainee hat) saying how "it's so great having grown up watching wwe/wwf wresting" that the ickey Rourke movie has been made to honor that legacy. The new show is too much Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and not enough Jon Favreau and Chris Gore. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Like TV only smarter.
