Just to be clear, this was the third round of the FA Cup, and the first with the bigger clubs (The FA Cup mixes teams of all abilities through a long qualification and then knock-out process until one team is pronounced overall winner. Currently a village side is still left in the competition alongside the likes of Manchester United). And there are several more rounds to go until the final which is more akin to the Superbowl. It also wasn't a terribly enticing fixture. Even though I'm quite a big football fan, I watched the Doctor Who special instead. Actually - the whole idea of using a special to announce the name of a new major cast member is very interesting and clever. Certainly it was a 5 minute announcement and interview wrapped up in a 40 minute show, but it's a great ratings winner and certainly more valuable than a press release which is what you'd normally do.
